Michael Haskel has been appointed honorary commissioner of South Africa in Palestine, it was announced today. Mr. Haskel’s duties will be to assist South Africans trading or residing in Palestine and to encourage commerce between the two countries. He will leave for Jerusalem soon to take up his new duties.
The new commissioner is one of the South African Jewish community’s best known figures and has been active in Zionist work for many years.
