The Council of Europe, Europe’s Parliament, has approved Israel’s recently concluded trade agreement with the European Economic Community and called for the early conclusion of a financial agreement. The Council, which only has advisory powers, met last Thursday in Strasbourg where Israel was represented by a special Knesset delegation led by former Foreign Minister Abba Eban. The Council adopted a resolution stressing that the agreement passed with Israel is part of an overall policy of closer European links with the Mediterranean basin countries.
