Arab brigands ambushed the Paymaster’s railway trolley near Tulkeran, killed the driver and his assistant and wounded the district engineer, a Britisher and his British aid. The car was carrying 2000 pounds for distribution among the officials.
The driver was named Hassan, an Egyptian, and the Greek employee’s name was Atanes. The District Engineer Wigley and Assistant District Engineer Taylor got off with wounds.
Apparently there was a struggle as the headless body of an Arab was found near the scene of the crime.
British authorities have taken as hostages the heads of the neighboring villages, confiscating part of the cattle until the murderers are discovered.
