The special conference called by Moslem Arabs to consider the Western Wall issue, scheduled to take place on Sunday, has been postponed to November I. The belief was expressed that the reason for shifting the date was to bring it nearer to November 2, when Palestine Jews will commemorate Balfour Day, the anniversary of the issuance of the Balfour Declaration.
It was stated that the government of Palestine has taken all measures to guarantee public order during the conference.
The Wall issue continues to agitate Palestine Jews. The Ashkenazic and Sephardic Chief Rabbis, Rabbi Abraham Ha’Cohen Kook, and Rabbi Jacob Meir, have despatched cables to King George and to the League of Nations, asking that the freedom of worship at the Wall be secured to the Jewish people. The cable to the League of Nations contains a request that the Permanent Mandates Commission now in session in Geneva take up the matter with a view of bringing about a solution of the entire problem.
The Moslem Supreme Council, the body mainly resposible for the agitation, issued a proclamation today to Moslem Arabs urging them to “protect the Moslem rights to the Wall.”
The resolutions of the Vaad Leumi, National Council of Palestine Jews, concerning the Wall question were presented Friday by Dr. Josiah Thon, a member of the Council, to the Chief Secretary of the Palestine Government, It was reported that the secretary declared that the government of Palestine is now unable to do anything in the matter, the decision now resting with higher authorities.
