The envoys of Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia jointly met with Indian Prime Minister Jawaharial Nehru here yesterday to convey their concern over Israel’s plans to divert the waters of the Jordan River when Israel puts into operation this year the Kineret-Negev water plan.
Also present at the meeting were Dines Singh, External Affairs Deputy Minister, and Rajeshwar Daya, External Affairs Special Secretary. A spokesman for the Arab diplomats said that the envoys conveyed their sense of “grave crisis” to Premier Nehru in view of the traditional friendship between the Indian and Arab peoples.
The conference was one of the last attended by Premier Nehru before doctors ordered him to cancel appointments yesterday after he complained of not feeling well.
