The long official silence of the Arab Executive regarding its attitude toward the British White Paper was broken this afternoon when the Executive issued a communique regarding an interview, held earlier in the day, with High Commissioner Chancellor.
The communique intimates that general excitement will be caused among the Arabs by any modification of the White Paper. The statement of the Arab Executive says:
“The members of the Arab Executive did not prepare any statement previous to their interview with the High Commissioner. Following their interview they left with him a message for the British Colonial Office. In this message the Executive deprecated the govern-
ment’s proposed conference with the Zionist leaders in London to explain the alleged vagueness of the White Paper in Palestine despite its clearly expressed terms.
“The Arab Executive fears that any explanation will lead to modifications which would make the Arabs despair of the government’s good intentions to preserve the small area of land left in possession of the Arabs in Palestine and to halt immigration.
“The Arab Executive firmly believes that explanations of any kind will cause general excitement among the Arabs, especially in view of the government’s recent approval of the 1,500 labor certificates for Jewish immigrants which is absolutely contrary to the White Paper.”
High Commissioner Chancellor, the Executive reported, informed the deputation that the Colonial Office had directed him to reassure the Arabs and to inform them that the British government will not neglect its duty to all sections of the Palestine population.
