Egyptian forces today advanced from their portions and occupied a strategic hill near Ein Karim, southwest of Jerusalem. Jewish authorities have informed U.N. observers of the breach of truce.

All indications point to the fact that the Egyptian troops on the Jerusalem front may soon start an all-out offensive. Jewish military authorities have therefore ordered a strengthening of the city’s fortifications.

Tension in Jerusalem reached a new high today after the city had its third air raid warning in 36 hours. Sirens wailed for one hour after the sound of aircraft was heard over the city. No bombs fell.

An official communique issued by the Israeli military authorities said that Arab sappers blasted a Jewish outpost late yesterday in the Deir Abu Tor sector, on the southern edge of Jerusalem. One Israeli soldier was killed and two were wounded. Arabs also attacked the Jewish positions with grenades, machineguns and mortars on Mount Zion and at the New Gate, on the southern and northern walls of the Old City, respectively, the communique reported.
