The Palestine Arab Higher Committee has protested to the West German Government and to United Nations Secretary General Trygve Lie against German proposals to pay reparations to Israel. It demanded instead that the payments be made to Palestine Arab refugees, German officials disclosed today. A German spokesman said the protest, received by the Foreign Ministry, was being considered with the “utmost reserve.”
The note violently accused the Jews of brutal aggression and inhuman persecution of the Arab population and asserts that the Arabs, not the Jews, are entitled to reparations. The note complained that reparations would strengthen the Jewish State and thus provide means for “new aggressions.”
