There is a decided shortage of Arab labor here, according to Davar, Hebrew labor daily, which declares in the current issue that 500 Arabs have been imported from Syria by Moslem contractors. The newspaper says that the report was not denied by Kingsley W. Steda, Director of Customs and Trade, and Port Officer W. Gibb, who were questioned by leaders of Histadruth.
The information is contrary to the assertion being used to substantiate the protest by Arabs against Jewish immigration, that there is a considerable amount of Arab unemployment.
Davar states that there are more than 2,000 to 2,500 Arabs who live in Nablus and Jenin employed in Haifa, about a thousand Hauran Arabs, hundreds of Syrians, and 100 Egyptians.
