Rioting Arab mobs in Aden attacked the Jewish quarter today, beating an elderly Jew to death, burning a synagogue and looting 12 Jewish-owned shops, it was reported here from the British Protectorate. The victim’s name was Mayer Awadh Shoa.
The rioting apparently stemmed from the crushing Israeli victories in the war against the Arabs. British troops shot one arsonist. It was reported that 138 Jewish men, women and children awaiting evacuation by air from Aden had been delayed because of lack of funds to charter a plane.
