An Arab strike today crippled Haifa business and government services, including the railways and the port, one of the largest in the Near East. The strike, called in connection with the Arab fight against the British Government and the Jews, marked the first time that Arab dock workers here have joined a walk-out in appreciable numbers. Jewish workers are straining every effort to maintain vital public services.

An incendiary fire destroyed a large pile of construction lumber on Mt. Scopus near Jerusalem which was being used for the $1,000,000 Rothschild-Hadassah-University Medical Center. The flames spread to trees in the nearby British cemetery, but destruction of the grove was prevented by the timely arrival of police and a fire brigade.
