Arab workers who are residents of the occupied areas and who are employed inside Israel are shortly to receive social benefits and rights, the Histadrut has decided. The decision resulted from an investigation conducted by a Histadrut committee into the social and economic problems of Arabs from the occupied areas which revealed a severe gap between the Israeli and Arab workers concerning social rights.
In the past year, 64,000 Arabs from the occupied areas worked in Israel. Forty percent of them were employed in construction, 25 percent in industry, 15 percent in agriculture and 20 percent in services.
