For a second night in succession Arab forces in Jerusalem shelled Jewish positions in the Abu Deir Tor and Mt. Zion sectors. An intermittent exchange of fire in these zones lasted until early this morning. The Arabs used incendiary mortar shells in their latest barrage. Further south, in the vicinity of Mekor Haim, the Arabs raked Jewish outposts with machinegun fire.
The Israeli Supreme Court for the first time today granted an order for the Defense Minister and the Army Chief of Staff to show cause why an Arab resident of Jaffa who is at present detained should not be released. The Arab, Ahmed Abu Laban, is represented by a Jewish lawyer, Abraham Benjamini.
