Egypt, as the representative of six other Arab states, was defeated here today after a hot debate in a sub-committee of the International Civil Aviation Organization, where the Arabs opposed approval of air routes from Kenya and Nigeria to Tel Aviv. ICAO is an agency of the United Nations.
The Arab states, with Egypt in the forefront, objected to the routes, insisting that the flights to and from Israel and the African countries would pass over Arab air space. The debate on the issue was begun yesterday and was culminated today, when United States, British, Swiss and French representatives supported Israel. Finally, on a ballot pressed by Egypt, the Israeli view was approved by a vote of 13 to 9 with 11 abstentions.
