THE ARABS APPEAR READY FOR AN UNDERSTANDING WITH THE JEWS, AND THE ONLY QUESTION IS HOW TO BRING THE UNDERSTANDING ABOUT, DR. MAURICE J. KARPF, NON-ZIONIST MEMBER OF THE JEWISH AGENCY EXECUTIVE, DECLARED LAST NIGHT AT A MEETING AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SPONSORED BY THE JUDAEANS.

DISCUSSING THE AGRICULTURAL, TERRITORIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LIMITATIONS OF THE PARTITION PROPOSAL, DR. KARPF SAID THAT AN UNDERSTANDING WITH THE ARABS WAS ESSENTIAL WHETHER PARTITION COMES OR NOT, OTHERWISE THERE WILL NEVER BE PEACE IN PALESTINE.

SOL STROOCK, CHAIRMAN OF THE AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE’S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, ARGUED THAT THE ARABS HAD NO EXCLUSIVE CLAIM TO PALESTINE, POINTING OUT THAT IT NEVER BELONGED TO THEM, WAS UNDER TURKISH RULE AND WAS CONQUERED BY THE ALLIES NOT FOR THE ARABS BUT IN CONFORMITY WITH THEIR PROMISE TO THE JEWS. HARRY L. WEISSMAN, WHO RECENTLY COMPLETED AN ANALYSIS OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION REPORT, SAID THE JEWISH CLAIM TO ALL OF PALESTINE HAD BEEN RECOGNIZED DURING THE MANDATES COMMISSION DELIBERATIONS, AND HE URGED THAT THE JEWS INSIST ON THEIR RIGHTS. DR. MAURICE B. HEXTER, NON-ZIONIST MEMBER OF THE JEWISH AGENCY EXECUTIVE, WAS INTRODUCED BUT DID NOT SPEAK.
