Protests by Arab diplomats in Italy to the Italian Government and the Mayor of Florence against the presence of a delegation of Israel’s mayors at a world congress of mayors in that city have been rejected out of hand by Mayor La Pira of Florence.
Mayor La Pira pointed out that mayors of leading cities in the Arab states had been invited, as well as the Mayor of Jerusalem and other Israel cities, but had chosen not to attend. Besides, he continued, he never would have excluded from the conference the mayor of “God’s capital.”
