Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns, Archbishop of Sao Paolo, has condemned the rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar” for manifesting anti-Semitism “through theatrical art.” His criticism appeared in an interview in the bimonthly “Resenha Judaica.” The Brazilian premiere of the show is scheduled for mid-month in Sao Paolo. “Superstar” was earlier condemned by the American Jewish Committee and other Jewish groups for allegedly fostering anti-Semitism. The producer and creators of the show have denied the charges.
