Argentina’s economic and social situation is tending to encourage anti-Jewish “scapegoatism” which is likely to bring a tense year for the Jewish community of Argentina, Gregorio Falgon, president of the DAIA, the central representative body of Argentine Jewry, declared today. He made the prediction in a general political review at a monthly plenary of the DAIA. He said also that radicalization among “certain sectors” of the Argentine population had grown. He added that some recent anti-Jewish incidents might be only the prelude to more severe attacks which, he added, could be worldwide. He announced that a special assembly had been convened for next week to protest the current anti-Israel campaign in the Soviet Union, which will be attended by representatives of all Jewish organizations in Argentina.
