A new decree has been issued authorizing the Argentine Director of Immigration to admit as immigrations all relatives of Argentinian residents. Previously, only first degree relatives (parents, children and spouses) were admitted.
Although the liberalization of the law should be of great benefit to European DP’s, Jewish circles here do not expect it to increase Jewish immigration. They point out that admission of immigrants is still left to the discretion of the Immigration Director, Dr. Santiago Peralta, who is a well-known anti-Semite.
At a ceremony here, the Jewish Colonization Association formally handed over land deeds to a number of Jewish farmers who arrived in this country in 1939 as refugees from Germany. During the succeeding eight years they worked and paid off their farms. They are the first group from Hitler Germany to complete payment for their new homes.
