Three prizes for the best essays and short stories written by Jewish youths in Argentina were presented here yesterday by the Jewish Cultural Congress at an impressive ceremony held in the Jewish Community auditorium. The prizes were made possible by the Matias Stoliar Fund, named in honor of the late editor and publisher of the Yiddishe Zeitung, largest Jewish newspaper in South America.
The first prize of 3,000 pesos went to Abraham Rotenberg for his essay “Youth in Argentine and Israel”; the second prize of 2,000 pesos was awarded to Bezalel Kuper for a short story “The Meeting”; the third prize of 1,000 pesos was given to Herszl Tushiner for a short story “Fear.” The prizes were awarded on the first annivesary of Mr. Stoliar’s death. Although the contest was limited to Argentina, the jury was composed of four New York authors: S. Niger, Dr. J. Shatsky, Jacob Pat and Boris Smolar.
