Organized Argentine Jewry appealed today to Soviet Premier Aleksei Kosygin to restore to Russian Jewry all the cultural and religious rights to which they are entitled under the USSR’s constitution.
The plea was cabled to Moscow by the DAIA, Argentine Jewry’s central representative body. It pointed to specific clauses in the Soviet charter which guarantee to all Soviet citizens the right of schooling “in the mother tongue,” and which guarantee full religious freedom. The signers of the message, Dr. Isaac Goldenberg, president, and Herzel Gesang, secretary of DAIA, stressed that the Soviet Union’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, to start next month, was being marred by the Moscow government’s discrimination against the nation’s Jews.
