A new attempt by Jewish leaders here to obtain permission from Argentinian police authorities to conduct Jewish meetings in Yiddish failed again this week. Speeches were made and all business was handled in Spanish at two Zionist rallies held during the week because the police refused to grant permits for the use of a foreign language.
Although the police generally allow visiting Jews from abroad to use a foreign language at Jewish parleys, Samuel Segal, secretary of the World Confederation of General Zionists, was prohibited from addressing a meeting here in Yiddish. When the police grant permits for the holding of Zionist meetings, they specify that no foreign country may be criticized by the speakers.
