Declaring “absolute and unconditional” solidarity with Israel during the current Israeli-Arab crisis, representatives of virtually every national and local Jewish organization in Argentina pledged here today to implement their solidarity “through material means and otherwise.”
The statement and the pledge were adopted unanimously by several hundred Jewish leaders who attended a special Israel emergency assembly here today. The meeting was sponsored by DAIA, the central body of organized Argentine Jewry, the Zionist Organization, the United Jewish Campaign, and other major bodies.
One of Argentina’s most famous writers, Jorge Luis Borges, issued a statement here today declaring his personal solidarity with Israel “in view of the current dangerous situation.” He lauded Israel as a country that “represents the causes of freedom and culture which are the aspirations of millions of men.”
