A national conference of the United Central Relief Committee for European Jews today adopted a decision to continue its affiliation with the World Jewish Congress. Most of the Zionist groups as well as groups which cooperate with the Joint Distribution Committee were absent from the conference, which was attended by 244 delegates.
A total of 1,907,000 pesos, approximately $475,000, has been collected in the first eight months of 1946 for relief abroad by the organization, which is known as Comite Central Unido, it was reported by Hirsch Triwaks, secretary of the committee, at a press conference. He said that 1,373,000 pesos were spent for relief supplies sent to needy Jews in Europe and that 320,000 pesos were forwarded to the World Jewish Congress offices in New York, He added that his organization has twenty branches throughout Argentina.
Beside the Comite Central Unido, there is the Junta de Ayuda, another Jewish relief organization which transmits its funds through the Joint Distribution Committee only. The Junta maintains branches in Buenos Aires, Rosario and other cities, and is now planning intensive fund raising in Tucuman, Santa Fe and Corrientes.
