Ariel Sharon canceled a meeting with Dominique de Villepin because the French foreign minister also plans to meet with Yasser Arafat. At a press conference following a meeting of the foreign ministers of industrial nations, de Villepin said he would “be happy” to meet with Sharon. The Israeli prime minister has said his government will refuse to meet foreign dignitaries who meet with Arafat because of the Palestinian Authority president’s alleged ties to terrorism.
