Armand Schmoll of Ica Directorate, Dies

The funeral of the late Armand Schmoll, a member of the Directorate of the Jewish Colonization Association, who died on Saturday, was held here today. Professor Netter, of the Academy of Medicine, spoke at the funeral on behalf of the Administrative Council of the Ica, and in the absence of M. Louis Oungre, the Director-General, Edouard Oungre, for many years a colleague of M. Schmoll, spoke on behalf of the Ica Directorate and staff.

M. Schmoll had been ill for some time but did not interrupt his duties in the Ica, and continued his work until the last day. He was a member of the Association for over twenty-six years. Before the war, M. Schmoll made regular inspection tours in Russia and Poland. His last visit to Russia was made in 1926, when he delivered a report to the Council on the new colonization and credit activities which were being carried on there at that time.

The Jewish Community Center of Yonkers, the cornerstone of which was laid on Sunday last, will according to present plans be completed the early part of March. This announcement was made by Jacob Williamson, chairman of the Jewish Community Center Committee.

The cost of the building when completed will be practically a half million dollars. It contains facilities for every kind of social and communal activity, gymnasium, swimming pool, lodge rooms, classrooms, dormitories, shower baths, hand ball courts, billiard rooms, game rooms and many other. In general the building is so arranged that it may meet the dermands of all activities that may be used therein.

Members of Zionist districts throughout Greater New York have been called to a conference on Sunday afternoon, November 25, at the Hotel Pennsylvauia, New York City, for the purpose of formulating plans for a city-wide membership campaign, according to a statement issued by David Freiberger, Chairman of the Organization Committee of the Zionist Organization of America.

The Conference is part of the membership drive that is being conducted throughout the country, as a result of the decision of the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization to designate the period from Nov. 15 to January 1 for a large membership enrollment effort.

An increase in the appropriation for building the Jewish Home for Aged in Portland, Me., has been authorized by the directors and the sum. of $50,000 will be devoted to that purpose. Contracts for the construction of the building are to be closed within a few days. Plans are under way for a dinner to be held soon to launch a drive for funds for the Home.

The new $2,000,000 building being erected as an extension to the Bronx Hospital at Fulton Avenue and 169th Street. New York, will be completed soon, Alexander Selken, president declared. The new building, for which the corner-stone was laid a year ago, will have 310 beds.

The $2,000,000 fund for the new building is being raised by drives and personal subscriptions of the directors of the Bronx Hospital. The amount of $1,000,000 thus already been raised. The Board of Directors of the Bronx Hospital is making plans for the final drive to raise $1,000,000 still needed.
