The Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission today censured Israel for an attack on the Jordan village of Budrus in which a 12-year-old Arab girl was wounded by a bullet. Israel, which is boycotting the MAC over the Scorpion Pass massacre, was not represented at the session.
A statement issued last night in the name of the Chief of Staff of the Israel Army expressed profound regret over the wounding of the child. It explained that she was hit by a bullet which accidentally crossed the frontier during live ammunition practice by an Israeli unit inside Israel opposite Budrus. It added that the firing was halted when a UN observer informed the Israelis that bullets were hitting inside Jordan.
