Egypt was condemned for two armistice violations, and Israel for a third, by the Egyptian-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission yesterday. The series of incidents preceded the Gaza clash of February 28, and one of them involved the murder of an Israeli by three Egyptians near Rehovot.
The Egyptians were condemned for opening fire on an Israel patrol on February 22 with three-inch mortars, in addition to being censured for the murder. Israel was condemned for firing on Egyptian positions on February 22. Israel spokesmen pointed out that their firing on that date was in response to the earlier Egyptian shooting at the Israel patrol, which was approaching a large number of infiltrators who were cutting grass on the Israel side of the line.
