A house belonging to a prominent Nablus merchant was blown up by the Israel Army yesterday following the discovery of an El Fatah arms cache on the premises. But the intervention of Mayor Hamdi Kanaan saved a second house from destruction. The mayor was personally promised by Defense Minister Gen. Moshe Dayan that he would be informed in advance of demolition plans. Yesterday he was escorted by the military governor to the merchant’s house to see the evidence of its El Fatah role. Another building belonging to an El Fatah suspect, Ahmed Hodhod, was saved when the mayor appealed to the Defense Minister. He pointed out that while Mr. Hodhod’s relatives lived in one part of the building, the other part was sublet to third parties who were innocent of El Fatah connections.
