An army patrol repulsed an attack by infiltrators from Jordan early this morning, a military spokesman said. Two infiltrators crossed the Jordan River, near the spot where two others were captured last Friday, and set up a roadblock of stones across a road.
When an army vehicle slowed down for the barricade a grenade was thrown from a roadside ambush but caused neither damage nor casualties. The soldiers gave chase but the attackers fled back across the Jordan River.
Army sources said earlier that although the infiltrators apparently passed Jordanian army positions on their way from Lebanon via Syria, the Jordanians were trying to prevent infiltration and had foiled several previous attempts.
