David J. Schweithzer, special envoy of the Hias-Ica Emigration Association, speaking to representatives of the press disclosed that three marriages took place aboard the ship during the voyage. He reported that hundreds of Jewish refugees who remained in Lisbon wept when the ship sailed from there. He urged that Jewish organizations in Palestine endeavor to bring them to Palestine immediately. He reported that of the 742 Jews who came on the Nyassa more than 100 were children, one third were women and the remainder were all young men including people who fled from Nazi concentration camps.
