Several persons have been arrested on suspicion of incendiarism in connection with a number of big fires which swept Jewish towns in recent weeks, it was disclosed here today.
Editor Verblovsky of the Jewish newspaper Folksblatt has been ordered dismissed for allegedly publishing false reports concerning a fire at the Jewish township of Jukliai. The dismissal was ordered by the Interior Minister under the new press law. Verblovsky had reported that members of the national militia of Siauliai beat Jews with rifles when they tried to rescue their belongings from the fire.
Twenty-seven persons, including two Jews, were fined up to 1,000 lits each in connection with recent anti-Jewish excesses at the township of Leipalingai.
