Arsonists attempted to burn down a synagogue in the Russian city of Kostroma, according to the Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union. Unidentified arsonists placed wooden planks against the side of the synagogue and set them ablaze, but synagogue employees noticed the fire and helped bring it under control, the group said, citing a report from the leader of the local Jewish community.
