Pictures made at social welfare agencies affiliated with the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies will go on exhibition tomorrow afternoon at the John Levy Galleries, 1 East Fifty-seventh street, in connection with the current campaign to raise $2,071,000 to balance Federation’s $3,655,000 budget. The show will last through Friday and admission will be free.
Drawings and paintings by Howard Chandler Christy, James Montgomery Flagg, E. R. Schabelitz and Edouard Benito, and camera studies by Margaret Bourke-White, Herbert Pels and Dr. Maximilian Toch will be on view.
“In choice and treatment of theme,” said Mrs. Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of the art committee of the women’s division of the Federation, which is responsible for the exhibition, “the pictures hung are representative of each artist in his best vein.
“From a social viewpoint they are a remarkable contribution toward the vivid presentation of philanthropic activities that might otherwise remain pale abstractions to us.”
Organization work in the tobacco, automobile and children’s and infants’ wear fields was reported as making headway Friday, following meetings held at the Hotel McAlpin and Metropolis Club.
The tobacco industry is expected to produce $60,000, the automobile group $30,000 and the children’s and infants’ wear division $25,000.
