Asian water buffalo were labeled kosher in Israel. Bar-Ilan University announced Tuesday that two of its researchers prompted the Chief Rabbinate’s decision to clear the animal for import and eating in the Jewish state. Zohar Amar and Ari Zivotofsky had presented scriptural, anatomic and historic evidence regarding the slaughter of water buffalo in Jewish communities to Israel’s chief Sephardi rabbi, Shlomo Amar.
