Unless immediate combined action is taken by the Jewish and Arab growers, the Palestine orange industry will be faced by a catastrophe, it was stated at the Annual Conference of the Palestine Jewish Farmers’ Association.
The conference considered the tariff walls put up by Great Britain, Roumania and other countries against the import of Palestine oranges, and decided that a special commercial agreement with Great Britain is essential to save the situation.
The League of Nations and the British Government are to be approached, it has been decided by the Conference, in order to point out the great harm to Palestine by the retention of the “open door” policy.
Spain is becoming a very serious competitor to Palestine in the international orange market, the Conference was told. A suggestion was made that a special observer should be sent from Palestine to Spain, in order to watch the progress of the Spanish orange industry.
