The government press yesterday joined the campaign against the middlemen in Poland in view of the appreciable difference between wholesale and retail prices of products.
While the government press makes no specific allusion to the Jews as middlemen, the anti-Semitic National Democratic organ, “Gazeta Warszawska” asserts that 90% of the middlemen are Jews who are not engaged in productive work.
The paper concedes that most of these Jews are also severely affected by the crisis, but draws the conclusion that a hungry herd is far more dangerous than a satisfied one.
It concludes with a demand that the Jews be prohibited from trading in agricultural produce.
