A delegation of Jewish leaders from northern Palestine, where five Jews were slain by Arabs over the week-end, demanded martial law be invoked in that area in a conference today with District Commissioner Edward Keith-Roach.
The commissioner, declaring he was aware of the seriousness of the situation, said he would consult Lieut. -Gen. John Greer Dill, commander-in-chief of British military forces in the Holy Land, on the request.
Tension increased during the day when flaming red proclamations calling on “believers” to donate to “fighters in the holy war to save Palestine,” were posted on the walls of mosques in Haifa and Acre. The proclamations were signed by the “Nebi (Prophet) Mohammed Organization.”
The settlement of Sejera was subjected to heavy rifle fire during the night. No casualties were reported.
The Agudath Israel, orthodox Jewish organization, dispatched a letter to Acting High Commissioner John Hathorn-Hall, expressing its horror and anxiety over the renewed terrorism and demanding security for Jews and Jewish property and punishment for the terrorists.
