The Federal Government does not want destitute Jewish people to violate the tenets of their religion by eating pork, Samuel G. Vack, secretary of the Lynn Jewish Civic League, declared in protesting against the kind of provisions supplied for relief purposes here by the government.
A shipment of 32,000 pounds of pork has been received for distribution to the city’s needy from the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. The other meats supplied were ham and bacon.
Vack, in his protest to Joseph Cole, Lynn welfare secretary, asked that kosher beef be substituted for part of the shipment.
The provisions have been stored at the Lynn city hall, which will be the “butcher shop” for the needy families of this city.
