The founding of the Association for the Advancement of Science in Israel was announced here at a reception held at the New York Academy of Sciences. Many top American scientists cooperated in establishing the Association.
The new body will link scientific research in the United States with that in Israel and will give Israel the benefit of new advances in research and methodology in this country. Ambassador Abba Eban, who represented the Israel Government at the reception, thanked the United Nations technical assistance program and the U.S. Mutual Security Aid program for technical and scientific assistance given the Jewish State. Other speakers included: Dr. Boris Fregel, councilor of the New York. Academy and president of the Canadian Uranium and Radium Corporation; Dr. D. B. Steinman, president of the New York Academy; Dr. Sune Carlson, resident representative in Israel of the U. N. Technical Assistance program, and Dr. Samuel Sambursky, director of the Research Council of Israel.
