At a press conference at Zionist headquarters here Dr. Selig Brodetsky, member of the Executive Committee of the Jewish Agency in charge of the political work, made the following statement:

“The result of the recent meeting of the Zionist General Council was the approval, by an overwhelming majority, of the policy formulated and pursued by the Executive. We hope all those in authority will learn the lesson taught by the premeditated criminal attacks to which the Yishub has been submitted.

“First, we are entitled to ask the Mandatory for speedy measures which will ensure the security of Jewish life and property. The reorganization of the Palestine police and the Transjordanian defense force, in order to introduce an adequate proportion of Jews into the defense forces, is of paramount importance. After three attacks within nine years that the Arabs made against the peaceful Jewish population, the government must realize that the Jews cannot rely on a predominantly Arab police and defense force for protection.

“Another essential condition for security and progress is the faithful, whole-hearted cooperation of the Palestine administration with the Jewish Agency in the execution of the Mandate in its letter and spirit. More active support of the Mandatory in the sphere of economic development and the opening of possibilities for enlarged Jewish immigration and colonization, must be an integral part of the measures necessary in order to put into effect the promises contained in the Mandate and the Balfour Declaration. The Executive is taking all possible steps to press energetically for these two main reforms. Negotiations in this direction have been initiated with Premier MacDonald and Lord Pass field. We have confidence that with the help of united world Jewry we shall succeed in our endeavor,” the statement declared.

Dr. Leonard Stein, political secretary of the Zionist Executive, will proceed to Palestine shortly to assist the Palestine Executive in the work connected with the Commission of Inquiry.

Intensification of the political work in London is now under review of the Palestine Mandate Society which will issue a fortnightly bulletin mainly intended for members of parliament, with the purpose of strengthening public opinion in favor of the Jewish demands in Palestine.
