Israeli science will have to “open the door to the secret of atomic energy” to aid in the development of the Jewish state, Premier David Ben Gurion told the annual conference of Israeli engineers and architects here last night.
Predicting that Israel would make tremendous strides in the next few years, he said that the country needs vast construction enterprises. The first of these is housing for 1,000,000 Jews who are expected to arrive in the next four, years, and for whom house would have to be “built quickly, suitable to the climate and to Jewish architectural style.”
Secondly, water is required for many settlements. The Israeli Premier emphasized that water for the Negev will have to be pumped from Galilee. Huge hydroelectric power plants will be needed to make the soil fertile for new immigrants, 50,000 of whom arrived here in two months.
