Berl Locker, Zionist Labor leader, addressing a press conference here today, challenged the statement by Prime Minister Attlee in Commons yesterday, that British troops in Palestine were exercising great restraint. He quoted a report from the JTA correspondent in Jerusalem describing torture of prisoners at the Athlit internment camp, and said that it had been confirmed by other sources.

Describing events in the settlements and cities of Palestine, Locker said: “The world must know that the situation is graver than it has been depicted in the press or in Commons.” He warned that Jewish resistance would not end until the Jews were given a ray of hope.

The Archbishop of York told a diocesan conference today that the British Government had taken the only possible course in Palestine. He appealed to British Jews to condemn the “terrorist crimes.”
