Mayor Willy Brand assumed today patronage of a documentary exhibit showing conditions at the Auschwitz concentration camp. The exhibit, which was opened here this week near the central city Zoo Station, will remain open until the end of this month.
In an address at the exhibit today, Prof. Hans Joachim Leber, director of the Free University of Berlin, emphasized the importance of the exhibit to the Germans and Berliners of today. “Only by maintaining an awareness of the conditions of life in Auschwitz,” he said, “lies the possibility of the avoidance of a similar tragedy.”
