A warning that large-scale immigration of Germans would threaten Australia’s security and democratic institutions was issued here today by Bernard Cowen, acting president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. His warning followed announcement by Minister of Immigration Harold Holt that a German migration mission would soon arrive here.

“One would have thought that, apart from these considerations, Australia’s economic situation, involving substantial employment cuts, would have required the government to abandon the plan for German migration,” Mr. Cowen commented. He pointed to the resurgence of Nazism in Germany and stressed the difficulty of providing a fully effective screening of immigration candidates.
