Ben Green, president of the executive council of Australian Jewry, has telegraphically appealed to Premier Menzies to abandon the projected large-scale admission of German immigrants. The wire expressed Australian Jewry’s concern over the plan proposed by Immigration Minister Harold Holt.
Speaking in Canberra today, Minister Holt said that his plan to bring 100,000 German immigrants to Australia in the next four years is based on “a realistic appreciation of Australia’s manpower needs for development and defense.” He was replying to the protests voiced at public meetings against his intention to admit such a large number of Germans into the country.
