Austria Pledge Fails to Ease Plight of Jewry

Despite official assurances given by Austrian authorities that anti-Jewish discrimination would be checked, the situation of the Austrian Jews remains precarious, it was reported today at the session of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

In Rumania, too, anxiety is beginning to prevail among the Jews in co##ection with a new governmen###dict to protect National labor, an order which will seriously affect Jewish employes, it was reported at the same meeting.

The present difficulties which the government of Iraq is making with regard to the Jews there will soon be overcome, the Joint Foreign Committee reported at today’s meeting. The relations between the Jewish community in Iraq and the government there are sufficiently amicable to encourage the hope of a friendlier attitude towards the Jewish population. Recent discriminations against Jews in Iraq were directed by the Pan-Arab movement there, the report stated.
