A monument which the municipality of Vienna recently erected in honor of Julius Ofner, democratic leader, has been removed from its pedestal by order of the authorities, and the site of the monument has been boarded up.
Ofner, who died in 1928, was a champion of Jewish emancipation in Austria, For many years he represented the Jewish quarter of Leopoldstadt in the Austrian Imperial Parliament.
