A new form of anti-Jewish discrimination involving the issuance of different-colored cards to “Aryan” and “non-Aryan” students has been introduced in Austrian universities, Neue Welt, Jewish newspaper, reported today.
All students automatically become members of the Cultural and Educational Institute of the Austrian Universities, which is under the direct control of the Austrian government.
“Aryan” students received light yellow membership cards, while the “non-Aryan” students received brown cards. The “Aryan” card contains a paragraph entitling the holders to special discounts at concerts, theatres and other cultural events. On the brown cards this paragraph is omitted.
University officials may, according to the regulations, demand that students produce the identification cards, which at once identify the Jewish students.
Last year similar differences in the color of identification cards given to university students was introduced, but following a protest from Jewish organizations, was withdrawn.
