Austria is studying the question of extending recognition to Israel but is waiting to see whether Britain and France will follow the American and Russian examples first, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry declared today.
Meanwhile, a representative of Chancellor Leopold Figl’s office asserted here that the Austrian Cabinet is in favor of granting Israel official recognition since Austria, like the Jewish state, knows from first-hand experience of the struggle for liberty which the Jews are making.
